Insanity In Kannywood: A Way Out!

Movie stars are accustomed to polite rivalry for coveted film roles, this is not unusual. It is generally known to have been happening in almost all the movie industries in the world, it can be tolerated to a reasonable level. In Hausa movie industry, rivalry took an awkward dimension by transcending to a level of insanity. Some actor(s), even believe that award glories are taking sides in an increasingly bitter dispute, thereby displaying rampage in their social media accounts. Making reference to the recent MTN award night, and the expression of Adam A Zango in his instagram account, the misconduct by his group (white house family) whom were busy chanting “sai buharin kannywood” at the award venue, their reactions after the award on social media accounts like instagram, are just too unbecoming; because there are matured ways for doing everything.

All that happened was a deliberate attempt, to taunt some actor(s). That a promising actor, who gave an immense contribution to the industry, will pay the supreme price for grooming and paving ways to other grown up actors, is nothing but a sad commentary. There is no question of searching for scapegoat in a horrendous misadventure for someone who lost an award. Losing an award is not an end to actor’s career, one can eventually win in future.

The unfortunate circumstance can be aligned to two major problems: The under performance or lack of doing anything by the governing bodies in the industry; where by any body can decide to jump in at any point in time without being screened or registered. Similarly, everybody is at liberty to do what ever he feels like, without any fear of punishment. Because the punishment mostly is only restricted to ladies, it is only an actress that can be subjected to punishment when she mistakenly stepped on somebody’s toe. For instance, the case of Nafisat Abdullahi and AFMAN, the recent case of Rahama Sadau and MOPPAN, following a threat by Adam A Zango to MOPPAN to deal with Rahama. These are few instances out of many!

And secondly, the high leveled illiteracy at some nooks and crannies of the industry: Fact to realize is, there are some errand boys whom have been poor, war mongering savages for years because they dislike anything concerning education. A medieval hate ideology perpetrated by few ill-mannered artist, who flew around on a ‘winged’ donkey, and had no control at all of their bestial urges, desires and distorted ego.

The misbehavior is intended to put words in Ali Nuhu’s mouth, the numerous attacks on instagram, the interview gave by Adam A Zango full of unguarded and unbecoming statements, yet, Ali Nuhu kept mute. This is quite exemplary show of maturity. Unlike the army of cyber intellectuals who invariably ridicule people on their friends list, threatening to block or unfollow dissenters, scorning well intentioned commenters for expressing their disappointment, or hurt on a particular point of view. Frankly, the up coming actors have got a lot to learn from the elderly, else public intellectuals will soon surpass them in arrogance and un-intellectual behaviour!

Scenarios like this should call for a reconciliation, the governing bodies should note this: No doubt that in any group setting, sooner or later, you will encounter conflict. It’s a challenge that comes with the territory.

The governing bodies should be serious, actors should be serious and stakeholders should also be serious. Reconciliation cannot walk in as a miracle, it has to start somewhere and things will work out. In the same vain, here is an urge for those who misbehave and enjoy misbehaving to change their mind setting, be civilized and act wise. They should how ever engage themselves in academics, there are lot number of schools between Kano and Kaduna. This will at least help matters, following the straight path makes one tolerant, balanced, patient, kind and humble. It also keeps you far from blind fanaticism and extremism. Remember, ideas can do more good than harm.!

GTop Disagrees With MOPPAN on Rahma’s Suspension.

image

We all thought and hoped that everything that happened between Rahma Sadau, Ali Artwork and Adam A Zango has became part of kannywood history after Rahma Sadau apologized to Adam A Zango on phone and in public through her instagram account. Ali Artwork also did the same to Ali Nuhu for insulting him. While Adam A  Zango ends everything and cut-ties with his friend and master that is Ali Nuhu.

It doesn’t just end there, on Wednesday Rahma Sadau received a letter of suspension for six month from Motion Pictures Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN)

Reacting to the ban when Kannywoodscene contacted him, director Aminu Saira described the ban as flawed and MOPPAN should have considered Rahma Sadau’s apology and put the matter to rest. “If Allah encourages us to repent, why should MOPPAN discourage this; why shouldn’t Rahma’s apology be considered”?

Saira also said that banning Rahma is an indirect punishment to the producers currently working with her. He added that they only saw the news of Rahma’s ban on social and if MOPPAN were really protecting the interest of Kannywod atleast one of her producers would’ve been contacted about the issue. On the allegation that none of the elders from the industry cautioned Rahma about what she did Saira said: “14 minutes after Rahma’s post on Instgram I called Ali Nuhu, who isn’t aware of it and told him to ask her to remove that post and Ali Nuhu didn’t only asked Rahma to remove it, but made her write an apology via same platform.”

Umar Kofar Mazugal is one of Rahma’s producers and chief producer of one of Kannywood’s biggest banners; UK Entertainments. Commenting on the ban, Umar described MOPPAN as “ignorant, biased and baseless organization that contributes nothing to the development of the industry.” He added that Rahma was slated to star in his next gigantic project KASA TA and MOPPAN ban won’t stop him from casting her.

Director Yaseen Auwal rejected the suspension too, describing it as “one-sided” penalty. His reason was, if Rahma will be suspended what becomes of Ali Artwork who committed same crime? “If Rahma’s apology is not accepted for disrespecting Adam Zango then Adam has to be punished for disrespecting Ali Nuhu too” He added

Kannywoodscene contacted one of the MOPPAN elders Falalu Dorayi to shed more light on the issue, he told us that he isn’t aware of the ban. The news is just media fabrications and rumours from the industry. However, he gave us the number of the chairman of the panel, Afakallah.

The chairman confirm to us that Rahma was indeed suspended for six month. When asked whether Rahma still deserve the ban after she aplogized he said: “This is not the first time she breaks the law of this Association. We warned her before, she disrespected the panel and misbehaved during hearing. We are not happy with her responses. So that’s the verdict, she got what she deserved.” On their decision to pardoned Ali Artwork, Afakallah said: “This is the first time we find him with at fault and he behaved well before the panel committee, he admitted his mistake, so we asked him to write an apology letter to Ali Nuhu, MOPPAN and other parties.”

Afakallah also said; whoever has pending contract with Rahma should write to the Association, they would come up with professional solution. He added that it would be of no use for any producer to casts Rahma within this six months. Everything is written and filed to censorship board, should she acted in your movie within the time frame your movie won’t be released!

On the question, why the association only ban females actors in the industry while ignoring so many cases of misconduct from male counterparts, he said: “That’s not true, if you go through history you will find that we penalized a lot of male artist including Adam Zango and he respect the judgment and served his punishment.”

To tell how rejected the MOPPAN decision was in the eyes of other filmmakers, last night during the dinner party celebration of Sadiq Sani Sadiq’s recent success in MTN kannywood award. G-TOP spokesperson Yaseen Auwal officially declares  “non-compliance with the suspension of Rahma sadau since MOPPAN decisions are not just.” He said that: “G-TOP as the mother company of Saira Movies, Kabugawa Productions, Asnanic Movietone, UK Entertainment etc will continue to work with Rahma Sadau.”

Between Ali Nuhu, Adam A Zango and Rahma Sadau

image

The FKD and Adam A Zango’s White House Family saga took another twist when an interview with Adam came out yesterday. In his response, Adam explained what happened with Rahma Sadau and then drop the bombshell; that his relationship with Ali Nuhu is no more.

Trying to make the sense of what happened or is happening would be hard. Even harder writing about it when words like ‘bias’ will be thrown at you, or based on the odd dichotomy that people like hearing what they want to hear but get angry about reading things they already know. Whatever way you look at it, a feud between Ali Nuhu and Adam A Zango shouldn’t be happening.

Most people rightly pointing to Rahma Sadau as the genesis of all this brawl. They are right, her unwise instagram abuses to Adam didn’t do her any favours after he removed her in his latest movie; Duniya Makaranta. Although Rahma later apologized, that didn’t stop Ali Artwork from abusing not only Rahma but Ali Nuhu. Another unwise decision.

To Rahma’s camp, she’s already removed her self from the movie after a certain Sulaiman – Adam’s media manager insulted her on instagram saying she’s not good enough for the film or to her instagram post that she’s out because she turned down Adam’s love.

As he responded in the interview he did with KannywoodEx, Adam didn’t deny what Rahma allegedly said about Sulaiman insulting her. He said it could be the reason why Rahma did what she did. But he said that Rahma was removed for “personal reasons”. However, in the interview he shared on his twitter page with Kannywoodinsight, Adam explained that his misunderstanding with Rahma is an old one which dated back to when she refused to act in his film NAS. Adding that the reason why he removed her in Duniya Makaranta is that the actress showed “ignorance” to their arrangement when he met her en route Zaria. And because the movie posters have already been printed and distributed in social media, that made him angry.

Whichever version of the story you choose to believe, this is clearly started as a fight between an actor who happened to be a producer and an actress over a movie. This is still happening in other movie industries. Whilst Adam and Rahma aren’t in good terms since NAS debacle, they managed to agree to disagree without the general public knowing much about it.

There is too much finger-pointing now, and Adam’s revelation that he’s done with Ali Nuhu has taken the story into another twist. Everyone knows their relationship You’d thought whatever happens Ali and Adam would resolve it between them.

These are two great actors that have been together for more than a decade and became like family. Adam was an FKDian, its where he grew up and learn the trade under the guidance of Ali Nuhu. You can fish out many interviews where Adam himself attested to that. Saying he was famous before he met Ali Nuhu would be akin to Cristiano Ronaldo saying he’s been famous at Sporting Lisbon even before he signed for Manchester United.

All I’m trying to say, although such things happens in the movie industry, the bond that we all know exist between Ali Nuhu and Adam A Zango is of master and an apprentice and should be more than some of the unnecessary things we are reading. Unless there’s more to it that we don’t know. Upon all the instagram foolishness, you’d thought none of Ali, Adam or even Rahma would come to media talking about it anytime soon.

Adam’s interview was meant to defend himself and there’s nothing wrong with that. But giving out two separate interviews is a sign of desperation someone like Adam should avoid.

You only hope we’ve heard the end of this saga but considering Kannywood’s obsession with sequels, you never say never.

Kannywood as Educators of the Society: Fact or Fiction?

The confrontations between Kannywood and social critics seems to have subsided. The critics seem to have succumbed to the fact that while the Hausa movie industry has its ills, its existence and essence in the society is now justifiable: that is, it plays a pivotal role in educating and informing a society that can be correctly described, to a larger extent, as an “ignorant” one.

They had to retreat, for this ‘educating the society’ campaign is tossed into trailers, movies, and interviews. In fact, more than fifty percent of our movies seem dedicated to this campaign, so much that they spend a lot of their running time on fairly irrelevant scenes in which our characters sit around teaching us life advice; also, actors and filmmakers spend most of their interviews blabbering about how their movies promote the society. The enthusiasm is admirable, but still: Does Kannywood bring that much benefits apart from being a mere source of entertainment? Let’s have a look at the current state of things.

With all the hype on education, enlightment, and awareness, one would think our knowledge about the world has increased by many folds; contrarily, the curriculum still revolves around three programs: love, family affairs and fighting families presented in the most conventionally clinched way that exists. No “single” movie has primarily addressed a major problem of our society such as ignorance, disunity, over-parenting, reluctance, etc; or discussed the impacts of modern-day issues such as drug, social media, unemployment, etc; or explored a major medical condition, historical event (ofcourse, with the exception of Ashabul Kahfi). In fact, audience, who have spent chunk of their life immersed in these movies, may still not know that the world is round, or that obesity causes diabetes, or that sickle cell anemia isn’t caused by wizards and witches, but a condition that is actually preventable.

Truth be told, some of the movies actually try; however, they end up lacking depth and deviation from the aforementioned romantic and family dramas. Our movies lack the audacity to deviate from the norm and try something else as they require quantities of songs and cliches to mask preposterous plots and weak dialogue. Jinin Jikina for instance, was supposed to promote girl education; unfortunately, instead of focusing on the central premise, it was served in songs and relationships. When your characters are driven by love, ruled by love and twisted way desperately in love, it’s difficult to believe your movie is about anything else. The world is just too complex, too poetic and too filled with sheer wonder to be dictated by simplistic notions of love and cheap family affairs.

One may argue that film is an image of a particular society and the “timidity” in our film industry is just reflecting an “ignorant” society. In other word, Kannywood is simply showing the reality of our society. Really? If Kannywood is really reflecting our reality, why do all the parents in our movies always have a single son or daughter when a typical Hausa man has many children? Why do most of the rich guys in the movies own a factory when we have handful factories in our community? In fact, since when do people start breaking into a song and dance and become surrounded by backup dancers? Our movies are but mismatch of practices and ideas- some are ours, some are foreign, and some are fictional. It won’t do any harm to add “intelligent” spices.

This ‘educating the society’ isn’t informational but behavioral, then. If nothing else, Kannywood teaches us the profitability of being good, for goodness is always endorsed and rewarded, while badness is condemned and punished. The major setback to this motion is this: the ideas of right and wrong are based on morality, and how ironic does this sound- Kannywood teaching morality? It is no longer deemed inappropriate in Kannywood to dress indecently; Courtship in Kannywood knows no limit; in fact, any sense of decency and reservation in woman, which constitutes an integral part of our identity, is rendered pointless. I find Kannywood assisting in making our culture to become, over time, debased.

The most troubling aspect is how actresses are shown as lustrous objects through near-nude dresses, enticing walks and dances. Spreading these images may incur serious ethical and spiritual ramifications. Call it traditional if you have to- or local if you must to- but it’s “islamic” that women dress properly. I could remember one of our filmmakers saying ‘his becoming a filmmaker’ was motivated by the will to counteract debauched western practices by, I suppose, vindicating our cultural and religious practices; the major criticism you hear of the west is their engrossment in lust- so now, is this wanton and blatant display of women promoting or sabotaging western practice? Our filmmakers need to inquire into this famous movie quote “the story isn’t the message.”

May be I am being too harsh on Kannywood, but when “education” is mentioned, mental and moral development naturally come to mind. let me, at this critical moment, try not to give in to one of the things they teach me, you know, being ‘narrow’ (pls if I am, try to forgive me, I watched a lot of these movies). How about inspiration? Yes inspiration! for, artistry, they say, is the ability to inspire. The first category of people we should expect to get traces of this sample from is the youth; so now, does Kannywood inspire our youth to be great? I will have to go with ‘no’.

In place of teaching our youth the priorship of duty, responsibility and hardwork, Kannywood is teaching our youth that love is the prime objective in life. Our youth are taught that parents are “enemies” standing in the way of true love. Our youth are taught that educational institutions aren’t learning centres but love zones. Our youth are taught that love is above everything and everyone. Take Daga Ni Sai Ke for instance: the film was ranked ‘the most educative film of 2013’, yet, one of its characters- a professional doctor for that matter- “intentionally” married a woman with HIV putting his “love” above his life, personal and social responsibility. This isn’t only stereotypically childish but also an abuse to humanity.

For children, Kannywood is deeply corrosive. Nowadays, some of the “hit” movies (Zawarawa, Ali yaga Ali, etc) are centred around premarital/extramarital affairs in which sexually suggestive scenes and comments run throughout the movies. Our children may internalise these languages and scenes, and….. You know what? Let’s just call it a day.

But let’s answer this: Does Kannywood “educate” the society- well, not in the informational, moral and inspirational sense of the word. But you never know with these people. If they can turn a “bokoless” into a billionaire in matter of seconds, and vice versa, you won’t know the direction they will approach this one.

Adam Zango Inveigled me to Insult Ali Nuhu – Ali Artwork.

image

It’s no longer a news that Rahama Sadau accused Adam A Zango on Instagram for de-casting her in his movie just because she turned down his love, less than 12 hours later she became apologetic and regrets her action.

It’s also not a news that Ali Artwork who’s identified by many as Adam Zango’s longtime ally boldly insulted Ali Nuhu and his late mother, yet again insulted Rahama Sadau by calling her a “whore” and remain unapologetic as at the time when this report was gathered.

All things started when Rahma Sadau made this statement as quoted on Instagram: “Why are people feeling so important in this life? Look, right before you de-cast me in your movie I hav already done that. Because am not that cheap to beg for what you are thinking of. Declining Your Love will not take me down. I AM RAHMA SADAU, and I made it to the peak of where I wanted to be without you, @de_prince_zango I don’t need a senseless people to contribute more to my career. I have ALLAH and the right man that always stand by me no matter how I become @realalinuhu…. I don’t give a F**k Mr. ***”

After few hours she became apologetic and wrote this again; “… I was so childish, disrespectful and stupid yesterday. For that, I want to send my warm apology to @de_prince_zango and the entire members of White House family. Plus my directors for making me realize my mistakes and wrong doings….”

Some genuine sources confirmed to Kannywoodscene that Ali Nuhu was oblivious of the first statement written by Rahama on her Instagram page, Aminu Saira was among those who alerted him to warn Sadau against such unlawful utterances which a moment later she posted the apology to Adama Zango and the entire members of his entourage. Although the actress wrote the apology in both English and Hausa version to understanding of the addressee, not long before the culprit launched a series of insult to Ali Nuhu and his mother as well as Rahama Sadau. The culprit used Rahma’s page where she posted a poster of her new movie by UK Entertainment titled Suma Matane with Sadiq Sani Sadiq and others.

It wasn’t so long after Artwork’s post that closest Ali Nuhus allies like Mansur Sadiq, Ramadan Booth and many others in Kano reported the incident to police in which Artwork was nowhere to be found. When the police visited his parent house with arrest warrant he wasn’t home, the only found his ill father and mother, instead they arrested his brother and asked his mother to sermon him to the station in order to get the other innocent brother out which she did. Artwork was given a chance to apologize to Ali Nuhu for his imbecility which he repudiated and said he’d rather rotten in jail than apologize. After he (Ali Artwork) spend a couple of days in police custody he confessed that is Adam A Zango who inveigled him to insult Ali Nuhu as well as Rahama Sadau. Kannywoodscene tried to reach Adam to hear his take on Artwork’s confession but he rejected all the calls times without number. It wasn’t a surprise knowing that Adam Zango once insulted Kannywoodscene reporter, accused all the media and journalists for publishing negative reports on him except Al’ameen Ciroma and Leadership.

Unconfirmed sources informed Kannywoodscene that some guys who believed to be Adam’s boys were using Artwork’s picture on their BBM and WhatsApp DP (Display Picture) praising his action by calling him names as “Jarumin Maza” “Na gaban Adamu” etc. Similarly, a group of young men led by Rabiu A Zango raided Rahama Sadau’s saloon and vandalized her belongings worth hundreds of thousands. In the same vein some of Adams allies were calling and threatening to kill Ali Nuhu’s allies, thank God it was recorded, but this is serious!

One could say the genesis of the problem started from the just concluded MTN/KannyAwards which left Adam Zango trophy less he even express his anger on social media too. At same award night Adam’s boys called him names that may create tension if and only if Ali Nuhu’s boys were…. It could also be the “love thing”. Yes, it was clear that Adam asked her out but she rejected and he de-cast her, she insulted him and later on apologized. Some people said is Ali Nuhu that forced her to apologize. Okay if Ali Nuhu can forced Rahama to say sorry to Adam even though she has all the legal right to debunk his request why wouldn’t he (Adam) asked his boy Artwork to apologize? In fact the breach between Artwork and Ali Nuhu is unbridgeable. You may begin to wonder, with all the contribution that Ali Nuhu gave to Adam on his way up the ladder, with all the support and protection, what wrong has Ali Nuhu did to deserve this in return? Or is it another way of showing appreciation? Can Adamu really do what Artwork said? Why is he silent if he’s innocent? I believe something is fishy somewhere, MOPPAN and AFMAN are watching and the culprits behind all these must bring to book or this will open room for others to be insolent against stakeholders.

It has come to our notice that Globacom, Samsung and OMO want to file law suits against Ali Artwork to claim damage for insulting their ambassador and his late mother.

Movie Review – Sirrin DaKe Raina

image

FKD Productions is among the very few production banners in  Kannywood, with the confidence of releasing a film without having more than 80% of Kannywood viewers to watch the trailer, and yet the movie sold a lot. This is a success!!

Production: FKD Productions

Producer: Mustee Junior

Writer: Yusuf Nahuce Marafa

Screenplay: Jamil Nafseen

Director: Ali Nuhu

Cast; Ali Nuhu, Nafisa Abdullahi, Rahma Sadau, Lawal Ahmad and others.

Sirrin Dake Raina is, in my opinion, a unique and gripping story of these genres. Though not like FKD’s recent releases; the film has in way or the other failed to reach the expectations of the audience. But I think we all shouldn’t have expected something more than what the director has given us as Sirrin Dake Raina is more or less an entertainment film. The game between the two actresses was what makes the film thrilling.

Fahad (Ali Nuhu) returned home after many years of studying abroad very keen to meet his fiancee, Yasmeen (Nafisa Abdullahi). But Yasmeen seemed to have no time  for love as her total concentration was on her studies. On seeing this, Fahad talked to her friend, Ramaisa (Rahma Sadau) about this and they both thought that the only way to bring on the attention of Yasmeen to Fahad was for them to pretend to be lovers in the presence of Yasmeen and others, but deep inside their hearts, they both knew that this wasn’t true. Rumaisa, who initially had a love at-first-sight for Fahad,  revealed her true feelings for him and this was how the battle began….

While watching the film, I kept asking myself, what were they studying in the university? Why would Yasmeen have to dress like that? If she must wear those clothes to school, because of our society today, what about those they wore in the songs, especially the last one? I think sometimes our Kannywood actors used to forget the cultural group they represent. Similarly, Rumaisa’s parents were not even for once shown on the screen. She was always seen lying on a three-seater chair crying with nobody to confront her.

Nevertheless, the sound and picture of the film were okay. The songs and dance routine were stylish, the locations and costumes, outstanding. The performances of the lead figures were excellent. The screen chemistry between the two of Nafisat Abdullahi and Rahma Sadau was just Okay. They were established as best friends in the film but to be candid, their relationship as best friends was too shallow. Initially, I feared that Rahma Sadau would be over-shadowed by Nafisa Abdullahi, but she wasn’t. They both played their parts very well. Kudos to the director for putting that into concentration.

However, while Sai Wata Rana, Adamsy, Madubin Dubawa and Ni Da Ke Mun Dace all mesmerized the viewers with amazing songs, Sirrin Dake Raina didn’t. The film has very good but not exceptional songs.

The songs, concept, locations, of the film were all average compared to that of other FKD movies. All in all, Sirrin Dake Raina is recommendable, but like most Kannywood movies these days, can’t say this one is out of the ‘ordinary’ bracket.

Best 5ive Actresses in 2014.

After the successful presentation of best five figures of 2014, here comes another birds eye view of top five actresses in 2014.

image

Hadiza Aliyu Gabon: Gabon seems to have overshadowed all the actresses with her array of blockbusters; Basaja Takun Farko, Tsumagiya, early in the year, Daga Ni Sai Ke and recently Ali Gaga Ali. Her performance in Daga Ni Sai Ke earned her best actress statue and stands taller than others in FimHausa’s poll. Remember she won the best actress (jurors) in the just concluded MTN/KannyAwards. Therefore, Hadiza Gabon is the overall best actress in 2014.

image

Nafisat Abdullahi: The only good movies I could see Nafisa featured in last year were Munafukin Mata and ‘Ya Daga Allah. Nevertheless, her tremendous performances kept her ball rolling within the circle of best actresses in Kannywood. In the year 2014 Nafisat Abdullahi signed an ambassadorship contract with MTN, started her production and grabbed the popular choice award for best actress MTN/KannyAwards.

image

Aisha Aliyu Tsamiya: It is obvious that Tsamiya’s performance throughout 2014 was highly tremendous. Movies like Ranar Baiko, Hanyar Kano, Dakin Amarya, Haihuwa and etc. Miss Aliyu won the best actress award in the fifth City People Entertainment Awards.  Moreover, she hit the jackpot by signing ambassadorship contract with MTN.

image

Rahma Sadau: With her outstanding performance and dancing skills, Rahma won the best new actress award in the fifth City People Awards. It is not easy to compete with other veterans, but Rahma is the most sought after actress in the industry.

image

Halima Atete: Her performance in Dakin Amarya, Daga Murna, Dan Malam etc cannot be disregarded. Atete was honored with the best supporting actress in the City People Awards.

It is my singular honor to say your performances and achievements are worth counting. Looking forward seeing the best in you this year.
